An Equipment, killed 2 Metro Workers

On Tuesday, Two Metro track workers were struck and killed by a piece of track equipment.

The accident occurred at about 1:45 a.m. as the employees were working along a section a track on the Red Line between Shady Grove and Rockville.

The victims, both men, were hit by a prime mover, a diesel-powered vehicle used to move heavy equipment.

Both men were automatic train technicians.,One of the workers died at the scene, and the other died while being taken to a hospital, Metro officials said.

Red Line Service will be disrupted during the morning rush hour as the incident is investigated.

Metro is encouraging riders to use the Twinbrook and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations.

Metro provided free shuttle bus service between the Shady Grove, Rockville and Twinbrook Metrorail stations. There was no Red Line train service between those stations.

Yet, The identities of the track workers will not release, until their families are notified.
