Suspense is over. Apple’s iPad, the Wi-Fi- only version of the tablet computer will be available in the U.S. market from 3rd April. First iPad will be Wi-Fi only and not equipped with 3G radios.
The iPad has a 9.7-inch, full-color, high-resolution, LED-backlit screen. Two model will be available: First iPad model will be Wi-Fi only and 2nd model will be equipped with AT&T and 3G radios.
Cost of first model will be $499 for 16 GB, $599 for 32 GB, $699 for 64 GB. The 3G & AT&T ready model will be available in later April in the market & will launch internationally in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK. Its cost will be$629 for 16 GB, $729 for 32 GB and $829 for 64 GB with AT&T & 3G ready.
The company said U.S. customers can pre-order any model from 12th March, 2010. It can be used to browse the Web, read email and books and play games.
Earlier in January company said the product would be available “in late March.” Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek saidhe didn’t expect the delay to affect sales of the iPad during Apple’s fiscal third quarter, which ends in June. He estimates Apple will sell 550,000 iPads during the period and 1.2 million in fiscal 2010.
“iPad is something completely new,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
“This a game these vendors play. They never announce a specific ship date, and it’s all about posturing and positioning,” said Laura DiDio, a principal analyst at ITIC. “But Apple really wants to get this out for spring and summer.”
