Apple Undercut Amazon on E-Books

Apple is almost set to sell e-books on its forthcoming iPad. It will provide the e-book in just $10.once upon a time e-book was a bestseller and was costing the same price that is $10. According to the reports from The New York Times Apple had worked a provision into its agreement with publishers. He requires them to occasionally sell bestselling books at a discount, possibly as low as $10 per book.

A few weeks ago, book publisher Macmillan sought after the existing business model of Amazon, the Number one e-book seller. Macmillan wanted to know the model in which Amazon buys books wholesale and its discount pattern. Macmillan preferred an “agency model,” which allows the publishers to set firm prices on digital books and giving a cut of revenue to retailers, which may not be an ideal deal for Amazon.

But Apple has given publishers the assurance to make those price related moves. It is possible that Apple is now letting Amazon free to set their own e-book prices on the forthcoming iPad, resulting in $13 to $15 bestsellers.

Now, it appears that Apple will have more control on Amazon over the issue than any other competitor.
