Batman beats Superman at the auction

Just days after the auction site ComicConnect.com claimed to break world records when it sold an original Superman Comics at $1 million, Batman took no time to steal the show. A rare, high-quality copy of ‘Detective Comics #27’, which marked the first appearance of Batman in 1939, sold for a whopping $1,075,500 on Thursday as Heritage Auctions of Dallas sold the copy of the comic to an unnamed bidder, on behalf of an anonymous collector.

Seven participants from three different countries took part in this much-hyped online auction which took eight minutes to come at a final price. Both the comics i.e. Detective Comics #27 and Action Comics #1 were originally published by National Allied Publications, a company that later changed its name to Detective Comics and was eventually called DC Comics.

With several movies based on these comic books well set to release in 2011, the auction companies are expecting the prices to escalate on rare copies even further. In fact, reports claim that the price for rare collectibles have increased to the tune of almost 15 to 25% during bad times as against the common collectibles which faced a price cut.
