Apple’s new move to popularize online and mobile video. It has began to renting TV programming to the viewers charging 99 cents per episode , According to a report from Bloomberg News.
The report also states that Apple is in advanced talks with News Corp. to offer Fox programming for rental through iTunes.
The digital files purchased are available for 48 hours and then new episodes would go online within 24 hours of airing on television. According to Bloomberg, Apple is also in reported talks with CBS, NBC and Disney, which owns ABC, and are offering similar deals.
An apple spokesman stated the company will not comment on any speculations. An announcement about the details will be made about the deal at an Apple press event which will be held on September 7, according to Bloomberg.
At present, people who wish watch TV through iTunes must purchase episodes at a higher rate, usually about $1.99. Although none other existing services allows people to rent television episodes the way Apple is offering. Some other TV network websites and cites such as Hulu.com, however, does offer programming for free with commercials.
Apple offers many advantages such as it will be commercial free and offers lower rental prices. this will enable the people to watch TV on mobile phones and computers. Rumours say that the product will be renamed as iTV.
Bloomberg report says that next month the new version of the iPod Touch, with a higher-resolution screen will be announced.
In the field of online TV, Apple has competitors like Amazon and Netflix. Netflix lets subscribers stream some TV programming on computers or onto their TVs with the help of a set-top device such as the Roku or Xbox. There are many TV shows available on Netflix, but are usually not available until well after they’ve aired. Similarly, People can rent digital movies from Amazon and can purchase seasons and episodes of TV shows, but they cannot rent television programming.
