Censored Words are playing

Just after the ‘word of the year’ nomination by the Oxford University Press, another list has hit the surface, which dishes out a list of words to be purged or banned from entering the English diction. The list which is compiled by Lake Superior State University after scanning thorough thousands of words includes the most misused words in areas of marketing, media, technology amongst others.

So which word made it as the arguably ignoble version of the ‘word of the year’? Well, the list was topped by ‘shovel ready’ which is used to describe construction projects which are ready to be kicked off. The word generally got prominence on the wake of stimulus funded construction projects. The list includes a noticeable chunk of words related to the newly elected president of the US, Obama. Obamanomics and Obamacare have found themselves on this list.

Sexting, which describes messaging sexually explicit text was also on the list. Tweeter-related words, which were noticeable in the Oxford University’s list of words chosen to be the ‘word of the year’, also figured in the list. The social networking site related words on the list were Tweeting, retweeting and tweetaholics. The word Friend’s usage as a verb as in the case of ‘please friend me’ has also been termed as unacceptable.

Other words which the list brings to notice were, chillaxin, bromance, app (shortened form of application), amongst others.
