A report released on Monday by research firm Hitwise said on internet that Facebook and Google has become the most accessed website in the United States. According to the document, the social network accounted for 7.07% of all visits to the Web, while Google maintained the rate of 7.03%. This was the first time since September 2007,that the search giant’s lost the lead in the list of websites in the country.
“One of the reasons behind the success of Facebook was to develop tools that make it even easier to share content online with friends,” said Matt Tatham of Hitwise. “Google, of course, makes it simple to find information on sites that has never heard before.”
Given the small difference in access, it is possible that the two companies continue to “fight” for the first position in the ranking of most visited websites in the country, said Tatham. It is worth noting also that the sharing of information through the Facebook has grown 185%, compared to the same week last year, compared with 9% of Google.
In 2007 Google began to lead the rankings after taking over another social network: MySpace.
