A general explanation for all the queries related to ranking of search results is what the Google has to offer.
The news speaks of the interest shown by the European Commission in the complaints regarding the antitrust issues against Google. Companies believe that Google manually posts the results for its searches.
Google’s Fellow Amit Singhal stated that it is impossible to regulate the search results. Every day millions of data are fed and 20 % of them are new. To keep a grip of the situation Google has made collection of algorithms which takes care the immense volume. He also said, “Our algorithms use hundreds of different signals to pick the top results for any given query. Signals are indicators of relevance, and they include items as simple as the words on a webpage or more complex calculations such as the authoritativeness of other sites linking to any given page”. He further added on behalf of the company that if an individual’s preference is taken care of, the quality of ranking and the relevance would fade away.
It further added that Google does not favor its own sites for the searches providing a transparency and to avoid these kinds of situation.
It was further noted that Microsoft and U.K. based price comparison site were behind the complaints. With the involvement of Microsoft, it could be a business gimmick aiding for Bing.
