Google enters social networking as Facebook improves live chat
Google enters social networking as Facebook improves live chat : – After much waiting, Google has finally entered into the social networking sector with its new service. Called Google Buzz, this allows its users to share photos, chat and go for updates through their Gmail account.
According to a market research company, comScore, Gmail currently has close to 176 million users. This allows Google to use the already built-up base. Also, Google will be selecting names of people that a particular user interacts with the most and put them in the list of the inner circle of Buzz, increasing its reach. The other trend which can work for Google is to divert traffic on the web, through links on the social networking sites. This trend is the latest in the search engine business; causing potential threat to Google’s core business.
This would enable the search engine giant to keep pace with the other biggies in the business like Facebook and Twitter. However, experts believe that it is a direct challenge to Facebook alone.
In another development, Facebook is expected to announce improvements in its live chat function by integrating with AOL’s instant messaging service, AIM.
