Google Likely to Shut Down China Operations Post Search Engine Censorship

Google Inc, the world’s biggest search engine is holding talks with the Chinese government regarding the censorship of the Chinese language search portal of Google. The chief executive of the company, Eric Schmidt said on Monday that Google is still holding talks with the government. However the Chinese authorities seem to be determined to censor sensitive information that Google can provide its users.

Google claimed that within China, the company had been repeatedly facing hacking problems. Apart from Google, there were several other search engine companies which had faced the same problem. Given this scenario as well as the censorship on Google, the search engine giant might shut off their operations in China, a company spokesperson said. However, till now the talks are on to resolve a two-month stand off with Beijing over the restrictions on the Internet.

If the talks are not positive a China without Google might soon be likely. The chief executive of Google however feels that the talks with Chinese officials is likely to be positive. He hopes very soon he would be able to announce the news of an uncensored search engine in a country which has more than 300 million customers.

However the experts doubt whether the ruling Communist party of China would at all compromise on the matter of censorship. Last weekend reports from the Financial Times claimed that the official talks between the two had already reached an impasse and Google was very much certain to shut down the search engine of China under the name Google.cn.
