Gymboree Corp., Netease.com Perry Ellis International, Star Bulk Carriers, Synopsys and Hot Topic Popular Stocks

U.S. stocks were trading down Thursday on 20th May, 2010 at 3:35PM EDT as the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2.24% to 10210, the Standard & Poor’s 500 dropped 2.45% to 1088 and the Nasdaq Composite declined 2.69% to 2237.

The children’s clothing retailer Gymboree Corp. (NASDAQ:GYMB, $45.28, +$0.88, 1.98%) on Wednesday reported first-quarter net income climbed by a third as revenue increased. Gymboree reported first-quarter profit of $29.2 million, or 99 cents per share, comapred with $21.8 million, or 74 cents per share and revenue rose 9.5 percent to $252.8 million from $230.9 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

China’s third-largest online game operator Netease.com Inc. (NASDAQ:NTES, $30.33, -$0.78, -2.51%) on Wednesday reported its first quarter profit rose 8.5 percent by higher revenues driven by a 50% growth in online games revenue. Netease.com reported first quarter net profit of $66.3 million, or 51 cents per American depository share, compared with $60.99 million, or 47 cents per ADS and revenue rose 53 percent to $175.1 million from $114.4 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

Clothing retailer Perry Ellis International (NASDAQ:PERY, $22.86, +$0.38, 1.69%) on Thursday reported first quarter profit rose 91 percent as consumer spending started to rebound. Perry Ellis International’s reported first-quarter net income of $11.2 million, or 81 cents per share, up from $5.8 million, or 46 cents per share and revenue rose 0.1 percent to $220.3 million from $220 million in the same quarter a uear earlier.

Greek dry bulk carrier Star Bulk Carriers Corp. (NASDAQ:SBLK, $2.61, -$0.10, -3.69%) on Wednesday reported its first-quarter loss. Star Bulk Carriers reported first-quarter net loss $33.0 million, or 54 cents per share, comapred with $22.5 million, or 37 cents per share and revenue fell 35 percent to $29.3 million from $45.1 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

Synopsys, Inc. (NASDAQ:SNPS, $21.36, -$0.44, -2.02%), a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design, verification and manufacturing, on Wednesday reported its second-quarter net profit fell as it posted higher research and development costs. Synopsys repotrted second-quarter profit of $39.5 million, or 26 cents per share, down from $48.3 million, or 33 cents per share and revenue rose 0.4% to $338.1 million from $336.8 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

Mall and web-based specialty retailer Hot Topic, Inc. (NASDAQ:HOTT, $5.97, -$0.56, -8.58%), on Wednesday reported first-quarter loss as revenue fell at its flagship stores and Internet music site. Hot Topic reported first-quarter loss of $1.8 million, or 4 cents a share, compared with $1.2 million, or 3 cents per share and revenue fell 7.1 percent to $162.6 million from $175.1 million in the same quarter a year earlier.
