Hand bacteria can act as boon for crime investigation

Police & investigation officials generally used finger print & DNA report to find out relation between criminals & victims to solve any case. But now University of Colorado researchers believe that they may have found another clue of investigation.

First time the human “germ print” has been mapped by the scientists. Scientists know from a long time back that human body have colonised with billions of microbes inside & on the body. Researcher’s study shows that these microbs are unique & individuals.

Human body parts are home for a unique collection of bacteria so our finger will also have lots of specific bacteria. After most carefully cleaning we will found approximate 150 different species of bacteria on our hands.

Noah Fierer, a microbiologist said, “There are certain situations where human DNA analysis or standard fingerprinting doesn’t work, maybe this is just another tool. There’s a rain forest of bacteria on your skin.”

Scientist will describe their findings in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Due to their uniqueness, scientists pointed out that these bacteria can play a good role as forensic tool in investigation in forensic labs.

Scientists used computer key board in trial & got successes. To determine they pick swabs from keyboards and successfully match with the bacteria which they found to the computer owners.

Accuracy of this technique was found 70% ~ 90%, according to researchers.

It also observed by scientists that hand bacteria collected from different people were quite different. These bacteria can survive up to two week at room temperature while finger print & obtaining DNA sample is not possible every time.
