HP sidelines Android tablet for Web OS tablet.

Rumors have been doing the rounds that the Android based tablet by HP might never see the light of the day. Though the rumors strictly say the device has been postponed but by many a chance this will be the final word for it. The tablet had to hit the markets by the end of this year. The decision has come after the commitment of the company to produce a Web OS tablet and the recent purchase of Palm by HP. Palm was purchased by HP earlier this year at the cost of 1.2 billion dollars and its market ranges from smartphones to netbooks, tablets and laptops, and also incorporates the cloud.

In its attempt to follow the Apple in producing a tablet of its own the company viewed the options that were available to it in terms of platforms. Android emerged as the favorite but since the investment in the Palm intellectual property the technology company has zeroed down on Web OS as the platform for its tablet. This will also let HP focus on a platform it directly controls, but attracting developers could be a problem. But with the words like shelved used for Android platform HP is just keeping windows open for it.

But the toughest task ahead HP is to get developers to create more of the third party applications for the device. The apps are very important for mobile devices but unfortunately Palm’s OS has relatively few third-party mobile apps.

But it is expected that the device will not be able to score a punch at the market where Apple’s iPad has already won many hearts and many more Android based tablets by all other technology company are soon arriving.
