Macrumors found an interesting website whois record showing that Apple once owned the domain name “iSlate.com”, a possibly hint towards the name of Apple’s new tablet. The domain information has since been changed to “Mark Monitor” a company that protects trademark domains from being taken.
Rumors regarding the Apple Tablet have lacked hard evidence in recent times, however we have recently come across some information which strongly suggests that the Apple Tablet will infact be called the Apple iSlate.
It’s common for corporations to register a slew of domain names, mostly as a defensive measure. If Apple were indeed working on a tablet computer — as most observers believe is the case — such a domain registration would make sense. And if Apple wanted to prevent someone else from using the name back in 2007, such a domain registration would make sense.
All this really means is that if Steve Jobs decides he likes the name iSlate, it’s his to use. It doesn’t necessarily mean he’s ruled out iPad, iTablet, iPod tablet, MacBook touch, or any of the other suggestions put forward over the past year or so.
Will the Apple Tablet actually be dubbed the iSlate? If so, Apple will also be using various other extentions of the new domain to market the devices.
