Nokia and Intel are going to combine their operating systems to form one platform. It would be named MeeGo and will be used as a mobile platform.
The two operating systems which would be merged are Nokia’s Maemo and Intel’s Mobilin and this would allow MeeGo to run even the smartphones, netbooks and others. This was announced during the ongoing Mobile World Conference.
According to Renee James, Senior VP at Intel, the system would be available for the markets by the second half of 2010.
The operating system will use Linux foundation as the base and anyone can develop an application for the system. But for that they need to use Qt framework.
Till now, only Nokia has announced that it would use MeeGo as the operating system in its devices, but as per James, more and more players are coming in to use it.
Nokia and Intel together have made this OS in order to challenge Apple’s iPhone and Googke’s Android along with others. While the other OS run on varied number of devices, the two wanted to make something unique and fantastic that would allow them to think beyond smartphones.
