Port-au-Prince is launching an extensive relocation program

The Haitian authorities have declared publically, to relocate roughly around 400 000 survivors of the earthquake of 12 January in the new villages to be built outside the capital, Port-au-Prince. Each village could provide accommodation to10 000 people.

 

In a first step, “said Interior Minister Paul Antoine Bien-Aime, 100 000 survivors will be acquitted in ten villages of tents.

 

In order to execute the plan, the government has by now requisitioned thirty buses to transport evacuees to the north and south of the city.

 

The final destination of the displaced is not clearly known, but authorities have informed that they had begun to identify safe havens in collaboration with mayors across the country.
