Another outstanding technology announced by SONY in this year’s Game Developer’s Conference (GDC) on Thursday. It is highly anticipated motion controlling system. Sony formally announced in a press conference the PS3 motion controller. Officially called the PlayStation Move.
Senior vice president of marketing working for Sony Computer Entertainment Mr. Peter Dille said that its credit goes to Nintendo Co. for “introducing motion gaming to the masses.”
Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton said in a video interview, “It isn’t for just the hardcore gamer, it’s for people that have never picked up a controller before but do appreciate accuracy.”
“If you go to climb a flight of stairs and you don’t step right you fall down… We have an expectation that balance is needed and precision is needed and I think we look for that in our gaming experiences.
“We always say that we want every consumer that has electricity,” he added. “We don’t want just young consumers, old consumers, hardcore, male, female, we want everybody.”
He also quote, “To get to 140 million people in the PlayStation nation with PlayStation 2 you’ve got to go far beyond the core. And it takes time and you’ve got to address audiences and really deliver for them.
“And I think a lot of people get held up in the core or they get held up in the casual and they’re not able to bridge the gap. I think PlayStation has proven time and time that there’s really something there for everybody and I think that’s why the campaign resonates with people.”
Sony Computer Entertainment Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said, “We have been bringing consumers what they have been asking for: a more precise, responsive, and immersive gaming experience.”
Microsoft is in planning to own offensive project this year as well with its “Project Natal.”
Natal, which combines a camera, depth sensor, microphone and processor, eliminates the need for any button-mashing device. Microsoft is expected to release Natal in time for the Christmas shopping season but has not set a specific date.
With the existing PlayStation Eye camera, Sony’s new wireless motion controller can track players’ body movements.
New PlayStation will operate with another ’subcontroller’, both to be used with PlayStation Eye camera. The PlayStation Move requires a combination of a Sony PlayStation Eye Web cam, plus one or more PlayStation Move wands. A secondary controller similar to the Nintendo Wii nunchuck, with the unfortunate name of the “subcontroller,”
Now SONY has a plan to sell lots of Move controller separately and also including PlayStation eye camera, Move controller and a game would be made available.
