Surprise! shrimp creature found under antarctic ice

Shrimp creature discovered below 600 feet of Antarctic ice. NASA scientist did a eight inch dia drill in 600 feet thick Antarctic ice burg. Then they send a video camera inside the hole to observe the mystery in the bottom of deep ice burg.

Scientist assumed that there will no light ray shine & subfreezing water will support only some simple microbes but they surprised when they found a 3-inch shrimp-like creature swimming, captured by video camera. This 3-inch shrimp-like creature was swimming & had parked himself on the camera cable. When the video camera cable came up then scientist found that there was also a long tentacle stuck. Scientists think that this creature came from a jellyfish.

NASA scientist Mr. Robert Bindschadler said, “We were operating on the presumption that nothing’s there.’’ He will also present his initial findings and a video at an American Geophysical Union meeting.

Biologist Stacy Kim of the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories in California said, “They are looking at the equivalent of a drop of water in a swimming pool that you would expect nothing to be living in and they found not one animal but two. We have no idea what’s going on down there.”

Microbiologist Cynan Ellis-Evans said, “This is a first for the sub-glacial environment with that level of sophistication.” He also pointed out that it may be possible that this shrimp-like creature swam in from far away any other site and don’t live there permanently. Even its possibility is almost zero because site is located in West Antarctica & is at least 12 miles from open seas.

This video has also leave a question to scientists to think again about principles of life availability under such tough & harsh environments. This incident again bound us to think life may be possible on a frozen moon or Jupiter.
