Toyota deliberately Defend the defects

As the facts found till now & problems claims in different vehicles in various different places, it is clear that TOYOTA is deliberately defending himself while company knows about the problem.

Toyota’s top official in the U.S. Mr. Towns said, “We have to get to the bottom of this.”

Towns said in an interview. “It is a situation that is just not going to go away if we ignore it.”

Toyota said in a statement that it “takes its legal obligations seriously,” but that it’s not uncommon “for companies to object to certain demands for documents made in litigation.” The automaker said it is “confident that we have acted appropriately with respect to product liability litigation.”

As per recorded documents, the firm had information about design problems, yet never disclosed their existence in lawsuits.

Toyota recalled more than 8 million cars globally for unexpected acceleration and braking problems, in a widening safety crisis about one month ago. The bulk recalls of cars are in the United States.

Chinese consumers of TOYOTA worried for quality and safety features in their vehicles when they knew about that global recall of more than eight million vehicles by company.

The committee subpoenaed documents held by former top Toyota’s North America lawyer Dimitrios Biller represented Toyota against liability claims of Toyota drivers who were injured in crashes.

In the documents, Biller explains: “The Books of Knowledge contain information on how to design vehicles and component parts (including safety systems like seat belts, side curtain airbags). The information does not relate to any one particular vehicle; the information relates to all vehicles. The information is essentially design principles and philosophies that serve the foundation for how Toyota designs its vehicles.”

Committee Chairman, Edolphus “Ed” Towns, D-N.Y., was present in the hearing where acceleration complaints in Toyota cars were discussed.

After considering all the facts of hearing and documents presented by Biller, Towns wrote a letter on Friday to Yoshini Inaba, North American President of Toyota.

In the letter, as per CNN Money.com, Town’s wrote “We have reviewed these documents and found evidence that Toyota deliberately withheld relevant electronic records that it was legally required to produce in response to discovery orders in litigation. Many of these documents concern ‘rollover’ cases in which the plaintiff was injured.”

The letter also discussed about the memo written by Biller to Eric Taira in September 2005. The memo stated that Biller reminded his supervisor to transfer the internaldatabase regarding design flaws and counter step to deal with it

Lawmakers and Federal safety regulators have accused Toyota of concealing safety problems over cases of sudden unintended acceleration.
