Will babies born through IVF technology face health problems ?

First test tube baby named “Louise Brown” born successfully in 1978 after invention of assisted reproductive technology. & more then three million children born through this technology till now.

Majority of these childs are reported healthy & find normal in their life.

But the latest research work presented by a researcher, Carmen Sapienza and his colleagues of Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, reported that differences in one kind of epigenetic mark, DNA methylation, on some 700 genes on February 21 at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

This research shows that these children have higher risk of obesity or diabetes later in life because of some of the affected genes found involved in in insulin and glucose metabolism,

Dr Sapienza compare a sample of 700 genes in children conceived naturally and through ART & examined levels of RNA to gauge gene activity and determined that the differences in DNA methylation patterns.

Dr Sapienza said, “people who spend the first three days in a laboratory dish in 20 per cent oxygen, rather than inside mum in 5 per cent oxygen.”

First IVF child’s age is 32 now & vast are under 20s so it is not observed but in later age they may face health problems.

Child conceived through IVE have less weight compare to a normal conceived child. It is not due to IVF babies are twins or other multiple births. Because low-birth-weight babies often have long-term health problems. They’re more likely to be obese, to have diabetes, and to have hypertension when they’re 50.

Dr Sapienza said that 90% of children born through IVF technology found still normal range.
