Women in America facing Facebook addiction

According to a recent survey conducted by Light Speed Research for Oxygen Media 39% of American women users of the popular social networking site Facebook are addicted to it.  A total of 1605 women users were polled in the survey out of which a significant number of them admitted that they were totally hooked onto the site.

34% of these women between the age group of 18 to 34 said that their profiles on Facebook are the first thing they check upon waking up even before going to the bathroom, washing their faces or brushing their teeth.
23% admitted that they sneaked a dekko at night and 26% woke up in the middle of the night to read text messages.  31% of the women admitted that they felt more confident of their online profiles as opposed to their real life ones.
As per the trend most women users were using the site for personal interactions as well as professional reasons. 63% used Facebook as a career networking tool while 53% said that they had more online interactions with people as opposed to face to face encounters.  This is believed to be a disturbing trend by many as it tends to hamper actual social interactions amongst individuals as they feel connected through the net and do not feel the need to actually meet people personally.  On the other hand some people believe that in today’s busy and hectic lives a tool like Facebook is a boon as it facilitates one to stay on touch with their family and friends, a connection that would otherwise be lost.

Facebook is also being used by both genders to look for prospective partners that they can hook up with.  In this category however it is 65% of men who use it for this purpose as opposed to 50% of the women.
At the same time 24% of men break up through Facebook as opposed to 9% of the women.
