Loss to Sevilla enough to put Zidane on the defensive

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said it "hurt" to lose their long unbeaten run with a 2-1 defeat in Sunday's pulsating top of the La Liga table clash at Sevilla, but promised that his side would bounce back quickly. "We are focused on what we are doing this year".

After this week's Copa Del Rey showdown Real Madrid are up against Sevilla in Sanchez Pizjuan, again.

He's played just two games for the La Liga outfit.

Sevilla on Friday criticized supporters who had disparaged Ramos and asked its fans to "refrain from insulting rival clubs and players". "I want to win trophies with Manchester United, I never won anything here", the £89m world record signing said. The defeat is a bit harsh on us, but that's the way things go in football and we must continue to perform as we have been up until now.

The Blaugrana are two points behind and have played a game more, but should Los Blancos win their game in hand, the gap will only be five points now instead of eight. Jovetic's finish capped a brilliant comeback, ending Madrid's streak and handing them their first loss of the season. Then in the injury time, Stevan Jovetic did the ultimate damage, by slotting in the winning goal for Sevilla, outside the box.

The former Sevilla defender had been the cause of controversy during the week for his celebrations after scoring a penalty against his former club in the King's Cup, and he became the protagonist again when he headed into his own net to give Sevilla the equalizer.

With them already standing as the leaders in the La Liga title race, albeit with a narrower lead now, a refocused effort from Real Madrid could see them run away with the title, and take back their place as a favorite in the Champions League.

It was not the exhausted display of a team about to fall apart under the weight of the fixture list. "If we win something it will be because of the 24 players, I am sure of that".

Sevilla president Jose Castro has hinted sporting director Monchi may leave the club by stating "you cannot force someone to be where they don't want to".

Marcelo added: "We can't repeat the mistakes we have made in this game". We knew this was going to happen one day.

"This is a huge victory for us", Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli said.
