An Aggressive White House Finds Itself on Defensive

Referring to the "millions" of people who have come into the US since Trump issued the executive order Friday, Spicer denied to reporters that the action is a ban.

Spicer argued that anyone criticizing the bill hadn't actually read it but was being misled by false media reports, and described the executive order not as a ban, but a "process" for vetting people that might want to do the USA harm.

Echoing Kelly's words at an earlier press conference, Spicer said the secretary had been aware of the order and had even made edits to the final version.

"So you're calling [the Homeland Security Secretary] a liar?" "This is not a ban", White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters in a fiery news briefing.

"Is it a betrayal", the New York Times' Glenn Thrush shot back.

Ms Duca wrote: 'The CIA officially determined that Russian Federation intervened in our election, and President-elect Donald Trump dismissed the story as if it were a piece of fake news'.

"It is up to each and every one of us to determine what the truth is as consumers of the news", Acosta said.

"Given the near absence of terror attacks committed in recent years" by visa holders originating from any of the seven countries in Trump's immigration order, "this ban will have little practical effect in improving public safety, " read the memo.

With regard to that controversy, Hope Hicks, White House director of strategic communications, told CNN, "Despite what the media reports, we are an incredibly inclusive group and we took into account all of those who suffered".

"The President's very pleased with (the US Ambassador to UN) Ambassador (Nikki) Haley being confirmed and spending her first week up there in NY". Reporters who had written about voters in those areas were mocked for saying Mr. Trump could win, she said.

McAleenan said this was being done in concert with the State Department. Spicer does not seem to value their opinion.

White House correspondents have been concerned over reports that administration officials are considering moving the daily press briefing out of the White House.

"This isn't about joining the government to execute your ideas", he said.

"They can throw us out of the White House, they can kick us down the street".

"Citizens exercising their Constitutional right to assemble, organise and have their voices heard by their elected officials is exactly what we expect to see when American values are at stake", a statement from Mr Obama's spokesperson said. "It does not matter what they do because we're here to do our job".
