Handyman accused of child rape: 'I'm not evil'

A 58-year-old trailer park handyman from Pennsylvania has been arrested after at least 40 decades of "horrific" sexual abuse of children, police say, after authorities discovered more than 1,000 images of naked images and 1,000 pairs of girls' underwear above his bed during a search of his trailer. "And these pairs of underwear were displayed nearly throughout his mobile trailer home", said D.A. Matt Weintraub during a news conference on Monday.

"The human race hasn't come up with words to describe what we saw in that trailer", Falls Township Police Lt. Henry Ward said Monday. Authorities also found over 1,000 pornographic child images in the home.

The closest description might be a real-life boogeyman.

Police also searched a shed on another property once owned by Thomas and found more sexually explicit accounts scrawled on the walls, court documents said. But the documents make no mention of any past charges resulting from the complaints, and Thomas is not listed in the Pennsylvania sex offender registry.

According to investigators, he inadvertently left evidence behind in his old trailer that was found while it was being refurbished. According to the investigators, under the pretense of conducting maintenance repairs, Thomas has sexually abused more than six children over a period of 40 years.

Thomas was put on trial Friday before District Judge William Benz on charges of possession of child pornography and dissemination of photos and films depicting child sex acts, according to court records.

Jennifer Schorn, the deputy district attorney handling the case, declined to comment on the earlier investigations and on whether warning signs might have been missed. It's unclear whether any charges or further investigation stemmed from the discovery. His victims were both male and female and ranged in age from two to 10 years old.

"This man was a trophy collector and creator of monumental proportion", Weintraub said. "He historically recorded all of his conquests".

Police say he admitted to abusing two children in an interview at the weekend.

Weintraub's press conference on Monday included a PowerPoint presentation depicting Thomas' business card, as well as photographs of him dating back to 1996 and previous known residences in Bucks County, Pa. Last month, five people were accused of sexually abusing a teenage boy who the authorities said was forced to dress up in a tiger costume at "furry" parties and then molested over the course of several years.

Authorities are asking other victims or anyone with knowledge of Thomas' alleged crimes to come forward. Weintraub, the District Attorney, now involved in Thomas's prosecution, declared that the inside of the man's trailer was like a scene from a nightmare.

Child abusers, she added, "perfect the art of manipulating, grooming, threatening and turning these children's lives so upside down that oftentimes they don't get reported".
