Harry Kane hat trick sends Tottenham past Fulham in FA Cup

Harry Kane's hat-trick - his fifth for Tottenham - saw off Fulham, who were the flawless hosts.

TOTTENHAM: Vorm, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Wanyama, Winks (Dembele, 79 mins), Eriksen, Dele (Onomah, 86 mins), Son, Kane (Sissoko, 75 mins).

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino insists his side have reasserted themselves in the hunt for trophies after reaching the FA Cup last eight with victory over London rivals Fulham.

Pochettino's desire to win a trophy was reflected in his strong starting lineup for Sunday's FA Cup fifth-round clash with Fulham and, having already tasted cup heartbreak at Spurs with defeat in the 2015 League Cup final, Vertonghen is desperate to win silverware for the club.

A minute later it was Alli who went close to breaking the deadlock with a strike from the edge of the box which rolled inches wide of the far corner.

The goal was coming though and when it did it wasn't a surprise.

Vorm nearly gifted Fulham an equaliser four minutes later, when, under pressure from Neeskens Kebano he passed straight to Tom Cairney.

It was nearly 2-0 in the next attack seconds later, as Alli found himself through on goal before a bad touch saw him lose his chance to put the ball into the net. Fortunately a poor finish from the Spurs midfielder let the Fulham man off the hook.

Fulham upped their game in search of a goal as the second half progressed.

Spurs will play Millwall at home in the quarter-finals, ahead of their expected move to stage home fixtures at Wembley next term - with the switch to a 61,000-seat stadium planned for the 2018-19 campaign.

Kane wasn't the only star striker to hit the mark on Sunday as Manchester United needed Zlatan Ibrahimovic to get them across the line with a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Funnily enough, this kid was a Fulham ball-boy.

Tottenham's centre-back Jan Vertonghen made his return to the fields after being absent for five weeks which coincides with the last time Harry Kane scored a hat-trick (4-0 win against West Bromwich Albion on January 14th).

"Training is tough, there's no doubt about that and you have to adapt because the intensity is a lot higher but it can only make you better and it's imperative that I keep working hard".
