Iranian president calls Trump 'novice in politics'

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a Tuesday press conference neither confirmed nor denied the USA reports that the missile was sacked on Sunday, according to Reuters, but insisted that, "the missiles aren't part of the nuclear accords".

Flynn included with his criticism of a recent attack against a Saudi naval vessel "conducted by Iran-supported Houthi militants". "The Trump administration strongly condemns such actions, which place American lives at risk".

Flynn read the Iran statement at the regular White House press briefing, and did not take questions.

He added that Iran had "largely" honoured the deal's terms so far, but also tested the spirit of the agreement by carrying out several ballistic missile tests in 2016.

The president, in an appearance before AIPAC in March pledged to dismantle the Iran deal but later softened his position, saying he would like to renegotiate parts of it.

United Nations security council resolution 2231, which covers the nuclear accord, had language inserted at the last minute which states that Iran is only "called upon not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles created to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons".

The defense minister said that the country's missile tests are part of Iran's defense plans aimed at fulfilling its national interests, and no one or country could affect the country's plans and decisions.

In his first public media appearance since taking office, Flyyn - a former two-star General - said that "Iran is feeling emboldened" as a result of the nuclear deal it signed with world powers in 2015.

Meanwhile, some 220 Iranian members of parliament reaffirmed support for Tehran's missile programme, calling worldwide condemnation of the tests "illogical".

In a statement on his Facebook page, Netanyahu said he meant to "raise the renewal of sanctions against Iran in this context and in other contexts" in his upcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on February 15.

The US intelligence community detected the missile's launch through its heat signature on Sunday.

The sole way to ward off any act of aggression against Iran is to boost the country's missile might, the lawmakers said.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan said it was a "sovereign decision" by the US, and that the move was not aimed at Muslims.

The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, added: "This is absolutely unacceptable".

Mr Dehghan did not say what type of missile was tested, but he stressed it was not a breach of the nuclear deal nor resolution 2231.

The European Union helped broker a landmark accord between the West and Iran under which Tehran agreed to rein in its nuclear programme in return for the lifting of western economic sanctions.
