Across the US, marches and rallies in support of LGBT rights

CultureL.A. Pride 2017 20 Amazing Shots From the #ResistMarch Festival and More Written by Stephan Horbelt

The Washington parade came a day ahead of a so-called Resist March in Los Angeles against Trump, which is taking the place of the annual pride parade. We are people of different faiths.

Washington, D.C. will be celebrating Capital Pride this weekend, but some members of the local LGBTQ community aren't on board with the festival's relationship with corporate sponsors.

The decision to shift the event's emphasis drew criticism from some in Southern California's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and "queer" community, who say the one day of the year set aside to celebrate their LGBTQ identities should not be given over to other political causes.

On a loudspeaker, one protester shouted, "We are here today because Capital Pride refuses to end their risky relationship with the police, to stop supporting Wells Fargo". And we are lovely intersections of these. Forces are gathering in government that intend to take away our hard-won basic human rights. However, that didn't stop some from defacing President Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with stickers reading "I Resist Homophobia" and "Drive Out Trump/Pence Fascist Regime". He lies. He cheats.

"I'm very proud of my country, proud of my president, and was once proud of my community", said Brian Talbert of, who also said he's proud to be gay and proud to be a Trump supporter. "Anyone else here a veteran?' This was a stark example of the breadth of diversity in our community, and we need to grapple with and respect [the multiple perspectives]".

"We had one of the members of No Justice No Pride speaking about the displeasure that one of the sponsors is Northrop Grumman, due to their production in military equipment", Renna said. "Some of us love him and some of us support him - including myself".

As for gay conservatives who might feel unwelcome: "I would hope they would be understanding and open-minded". Joining with thousands to kickoff the LA #ResistMarch. This is only the beginning!

On Saturday in Washington, D.C., the annual D.C. Capital Pride Parade, a massive showing of the rainbow colors by gays, lesbians, transgenders, and others, was almost halted in its tracks.

Lambert said that the annual parade was a celebration of "our glitter, but this year we're facing such dark forces that Pride has taken on a deeper goal: protest".

Cicilline, who is working to get Congress to pass that would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, said in a statement to CNN that the Trump administration is starting to roll back gains the LGBT community has made in recent years.

As D.C. march participant Daniel Dunlop of Atlanta, sees it, "There's a growing hostile rhetoric from the White House and we don't like the point of direction".

As we approach the one year anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting, many of us, gay or straight are reminded of where we were when we heard the news about this awful tragedy.
