Tributes flow for Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin news Singer is under the care of hospice workers at her Detroit home

"The Queen of Soul", Aretha Franklin, has passed away at the age of 76.

Today, Franklin lost her battle with pancreatic cancer. "We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin's family and friends".

Her death reverberated so deeply that an incredible array of people from around the world, from U.S. presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama to musicians Paul McCartney and Diana Ross, took to social media to pay tribute.

"Thank you Aretha Franklin for getting me through tough days", Twitter user, Pablo, said. "While most of us know her for her classic songs like "Respect" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", there was more to the vocal powerhouse than met the eyes. "As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this hard time". She went on to win 18 Grammy Awards, sell more than 75 million records in her life, and become one of the best-selling selling artists of all time.

Other than "Respect", her powerful cover of the Otis Redding tune that became a feminist anthem and her calling card, Franklin had dozens of Top 40 singles, according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

After a handful of hits, Franklin started earning $100,000 for performances and attention for the singer was bigger than ever.

A preacher's daughter, Franklin began her career as a teenager in the 1950s, and her inimitable voice allowed her to hop between gospel, R&B, classical and jazz genres with grace. Needless to say, the singer did more in her 76 years than most of us could do with triple that time. And while Fox News attempted to pay homage to the legendary singer, they somehow found a way to drop the ball.

"We are losing a lot of our icons - Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston", said Angelica McKinney, the man who played some of Franklin's songs during the event.

Although Aretha Franklin had been in the music industry for several years already, it wasn't until a trip to northwest Alabama in which her career changed.

"Let's all take a moment to give thanks for the handsome life of Aretha Franklin, the Queen of our souls, who inspired us all for many many years", tweeted singer-songwriter Paul McCartney. She worked for me on numerous occasions. But Aretha did and she raised the roof. But she garnered renewed attention after appearing in the 1980 musical comedy film The Blues Brothers. "Not the queen. She stayed here". "She was an unflinching advocate for civil rights and women, and her legacy will live on in her music forever".

Singing along to the music, Lemon said the loss hit home.

"Her music was deepened by her connection to the struggles and the triumphs of the African American experience", he said in a statement. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.

"I'll be pretty much satisfied, but I'm not going to go anywhere and just sit down and do nothing".

Trump did not explain further when he said he knew Franklin well and she "worked for" him. "Rest in Peace. #Respect", he wrote.

And so he happened to tell me that we had a gig and I said, "Oh OK".
