Amazon’s kindle to be available across Target stores

Beginning on Sunday Target store will become the first brick and mortar store to sell kindle. Kindle will be available at the price of $259 at the store that is same as the price at Amazon.com.

This decision of selling kindle at its new location was made after the initial trial at the Target’s flagship store at in Minneapolis and later in stores across Florida from April 25 got a very good response from the public. This prompted the device to be now sold at the entire chain of the store.

Mark Schindele, a senior vice president for Target, said in a statement that the discount chain’s customers had an “overwhelmingly positive” response to the Kindle during a test run at 104 stores.

Target owns 1,740 stores in 49 states across US, which give a big boost to the sales of the Kindle e-book reader, Amazon’s best-selling product. After its launch in 2007, the Kindle became one of the first devices of its kind to allow wireless downloads of digital books, magazines, newspapers and even personal documents. The Kindle Store, currently boasts over 550,000 titles in its library. That’s up from 90,000 when it launched just three years ago

The ever increasing competition in the electronic market might be seen as one of the reasons for this decision. The competition has likewise increased in the e-book market. Ipad by apple is now being sold across nine countries across the world and has gained tremendous success. Likewise Barnes and nobles now sell their e-book reader the nook from its stores.

With kindle’s entry at Target stores the war has just got tougher. On Wednesday, Barnes & Noble said it would offer a free $50 gift card with any purchase of the Nook which also sells at the same price of $259.
