With more and more internet users popping in everyday the Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF) estimates that the soon the IPv4 will run out of IP addresses for new rule.
The present IP protocol in use is the IPv4 which provides the users with a 32 bit IP address. Due to the short length of the current IP address it has a limit of approximately 4.3 billion IP addresses. In order to overcome this problem the IETF has come with the proposal to implement the IPv6 for providing the IP addresses. The IPv6 provides a 128 bit IP address to the users which would be capable enough to provide billions of addresses to each and every user on earth.
The sudden boost in the number of internet users in India and China have created more troubles for the IETF as the number of users is expected to rise further in the coming years. The migration to IPv6 will further increase the no of internet users in India.
The IPv6 was designed keeping the issue of cyber security in mind, it provide more secure environment for the internet users. It has very advanced measures to control encryption and authentication of data. IPv6 is far more superior n sophisticated than the IPv4 in terms of internet security.
Another feature of IPv6 is that it is compatible with the IPv4 also which is being currently used for the addressing on internet as a result of this till the time the updation is completed the users can have uninterrupted service. The IPv6 is far more efficient and reliable than the IPv4 as a very small amount of data is lost during transmission in the IPv6.
IPv6 is definitely gaining momentum as servers like face book and Google are rolling into IPv6 support.
