Kindle DX now available outside the US

Amazon.com finally has now opened its Kindle DX with 9.7 inch display to be sold in over 100 countries outside the US, the company said on Wednesday. The product is now up for ordering, the company will start shipments from January 19. This version of Kindle is priced at $489.

Kindle DX with Global Wireless is a reader with 3.3 GB memory and can house close to 3,500 books at a given point of time, said Amazon. The reader comes with built-in PDF reader using Adobe Reader Mobile technology to allow the user to read documents.

Earlier in October last year Amazon started selling a Kindle with US and International Wireless and 6 inch display. It was priced at $279 and was sold in those countries where the new Kindle can now be seen.

Amazon is now betting big on Kindle, the reader. The company in a statement in December revealed that customers, this Christmas season, purchased more Kindle books than physical books, though it did not disclose the units sold. The company is also in talks with local publishers in various countries to offer their products on the Kindle.

However, the problem that Amazon is facing in many countries is that the Kindle products are costing higher to the customers as compared to the physical products. Also in many targeted countries customers are not keen on paying in form of the US dollar as required by Amazon.

Currently all sells of Kindle is managed from its US store, which further increases the cost for the buyer as apart from its cost the product further attracts import duties, shipping and handling cost before it reaches to the user outside the US. So far the company has not given any information as to whether it has plans to open stores outside the US.
