LG Electronics Inc. has desist the idea of launching a tablet running on the operating system Google Android 2.2, dubbed “Froyo”. This announcement will likely delay the marketing of this device originally scheduled for next quarter. This decision may also mark a new setback for the South Korean company, which seeks to boost its mobile division deficit with new terminals, the first tablet that may be too late in a market dominated by Apple iPad.
“We want to launch a shelf running the most stable version of Android (…) We are talking to Google to see which version is most appropriate for our shelves and it’s not Froyo 2.2″, said a LG responsible for wishing to remain anonymous. He also informed that LG has not stopped the launch date. After Dell and Samsung Electronics, the maker of BlackBerry Research In Motion, unveiled last week its own multimedia touch pad called Playbook.
LG is the world third largest manufacturer of mobile phones but it struggles to find its place in the smartphone segment. The group hopes to sell 10 million units of the Optimus One, its new multimedia phone that it announced the global launch in September.
