Rock Band 3 is coming in this Holidays, Harmonix Music Systems has confirmed they are currently working on Rock Band 3, the next installment of their flagship music game franchise, for release this holiday.
“Rock Band,” in which players perform popular songs with controllers resembling musical instruments, debuted in November 2007. The second version came out the next fall and the Beatles special edition hit stores last September. The franchise has sold more than 13 million units to date.
But “Rock Band” lost money last year for parent company Viacom Inc., as the video game industry overall saw sales plunge 46 percent to $1.06 billion, according to NPD Group.
In an official statement, the developer says the game will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts. Harmonix has had similar deals with previous titles such as Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band.
